A 26-year-old alleged member of the Manoj Morkhedi gang, infamous for abduction and extortion in Haryana and certain areas of South-west Delhi, has been arrested by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police.
This gang member, identified as Sonu, popular in the crime world by the moniker “Doctor”, was wanted in a murder case of Haryana’s Rohtak, which took place around seven months ago, said police on Saturday.
On June 24, the police received a tip-off about Doctor’s movement and laid a trap near Kesho Pur Mandi in West Delhi. They overpowered Doctor, when he approached the spot, said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime). During interrogation, Doctor told police that he had come in contact of one Arun of his village (Morkhedi in Haryana’s Rohtak district), who was an active member of the notorious Manoj Morkhedi gang.
He also revealed that in 2010, an alleged assassin of the Morkhedi gang, Jagdeep, had shot dead one Jaiprakash Singh of Bhagwati Pur village in Rohtak. Jaiprakash’s father Jagat Singh, turned out to be a witness in this case. In December 2014, Doctor and Jagdeep allegedly assassinated Jagat Singh, with the help of two other gang members identified as Himmat and Manish, said a senior police official.
