Cops are on the lookout for an accused who has been targetting doctors at Safdarjung hospital to fund his greed for gold.

For the past one week, cops at Safdarjung police station have been receiving complaints of thefts from doctors at Safdarjung hospital, who reside at accommodations adjacent to the hospital. The most recent theft was committed on Friday from the residence of Dr. Aditya, who has also lodged a complaint.

An official said, 'So far the accused has committed eight thefts in the same area. It seems that he is only interested in stealing debit cards and whatever cash is available in the wallet of the doctors.' On Friday, when Aditya went to take a bath, the accused somehow managed to enter his room on the ground floor and took away his debit card and some cash. Once at the hospital, when Aditya reached for his wallet to pay the canteen bill, he found his debit card and money missing. He immediately recalled a few recent incidences of thefts of debit cards of other doctors nd registered a complaint at the police station.

Soon after he blocked his card, but by then, the accused had already shopped for Rs. 80,000. When the bank was contacted, they traced that the card had been used in the Lajpat Nagar area.
The CCTV footages of the market, along with the footages of the jewellery shops were searched and the accused was identified. He had shopped for Rs 80,000 worth of gold from two jewellery shops, including PC jewellers in Lajpat Nagar.

When the earlier records of accused's shopping were collected it was found that he had used all the stolen debit cards to shop only for gold. 'On the basis of the CCTV footage, we have launched a man-hunt against him. Several raids have been conducted and he will be apprehended soon,' the official added.
