All schools to have medical officers

Now, all recognised schools in Delhi will have a registered doctor as medical officer.

Director of Education (DoE) of Delhi directed all recognised schools to appoint qualified medical officers to look after the health of students.

Amit Singla, Director of Education, said, ‘According to Rule 38 of the Delhi School Education Rules, all recognised schools of NCR will now have to appoint medical officer on part-time or full time basis.’

He added, ‘The medical crisis management committee has also emphasised  that appropriate steps would be taken for the schools to have such medical practitioners, along with paramedics. We have directed the respondents to implement Rule 38 within six months.’

The medical officer will be assisted by someone on  part-time or full-time basis, as may be necessary. Singla added, ‘In case of girls’ schools, only women practitioners will be appointed. In case of co-educational schools, at least one lady woman would be appointed.’

The recent move is being welcomed by parents, as they see it as an innovative and necessary step. One of the residents of Govindpuri in south Delhi said, ‘We are happy with this plan. Now our children will feel safer in schools.’
