All medical colleges in Delhi to have NEET, except AIIMS: Jain

Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Friday again emphasised on Delhi government’s commitment to implement the National Eligibility cum Entrance test (NEET) by stating that all medical educational institutions in Delhi will have examinations under NEET.

Based on the statement provided by the Health department of the Delhi government, major medical educational institutes namely, Maulana Azad Medical College, Lady Hardinge, University College of
Medical Sciences, Safdarjung, Hindu Rao, Ambedkar Hospital, Army Medical College and Jamia Hospital will all have examinations under NEET, except AIIMS which has its own set of examinations.
In total, these medical institutions have a total of 1,150 seats, out of which 701 seats are under Delhi quota.

The Health minister made these comments while stating that the first session of Ambedkar Medical will start this year itself. Jain said: “On June 12, we will be inaugurating the Ambedkar Medical College at Rohini dedicating it to nation, and by September, we plan to start the first session of the college. The entrance to the college will be done through NEET.”

Jain reiterated that there is a business of medical education prevalent in the country where the politicians connive with private players to sell the medical education for big profits.
Jain also highlighted that there are 80 Members of Parliament who are in the business of medical education and they should be exposed by the media.

Jain also mentioned that in the coming session, from June 9-10, there will also be a discussion pertaining to tackling of dengue and maintaining cleanliness in Delhi.

With respect to requirement fogging for eliminating the dengue larvae, Jain said: “We are still in the preventive stage than in the treatment stage, so at the moment there is no requirement of fogging.”
