All for a cause

The opening day of the academic session (2016-17) of Kirori Mal College of Delhi University began with a street play which attempts to sensitise students about atrocities against women. The play named ‘Dastak’, staged by famous Asmita theatre group, highlights the everyday heinous violence and harassment against women at work place and public spaces.

“The idea behind staging the play is to raise awareness among the new batch of students about harassment and violence that women have to go through daily,” said Arvind Gaur, Director of Asmita Theatre group.

“Cutting across class and profession, women face continuous and different forms of sexual harassment in crowded as well as secluded places. Be it public transport, cars, markets, roads, public toilets, parks or any other place, women always have to be on their guards. School and college students are most vulnerable to harassment and illicit behaviour, particularly rampant in public transport, like buses. The play is an attempt to raise awareness and sensitize people on atrocities against women,” he added.
