Akhilesh warns babus to keep a check on what they say

‘‘The statements should be issued by the officers showing restrain over language as we (politicians) try to do all the time,’ the CM told reporters on Friday.

Principal secretary home, AK Gupta, considered close to the Chief minister, in  fact, stirred a fresh controversy claiming no one died of cold at the riot relief camps and the children have died of pneumonia, not of cold.’ Nobody can die of cold. Had people died of cold, no body would have been alive in Siberia,’ he was reported to have said.

‘This kind of language is not expected from the officers. Some times during question-answer format the officers use some words which are picked up by news channels and these are shown 24x7 giving government a bad name,’ he said.

Gupta had claimed that 34 children under 12 years of age had died at the relief camps. Uttar Pradesh government has drawn flak from political parties for its apathetic response towards the families living in refugee camps in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli.

Perhaps, the sharpest comment came from Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah who on twitter said, ‘Gupta should be sent out in cold with lesser clothes.’ Cannot die of the cold. Send him out in a few less clothes and let us see if he is not singing a different tune pretty damn quick.’

Nearly 60 people were killed in communal violence in Muzaffarnagar in September. As many as 40,000 people had moved into makeshift relief camps.
