Stressing on formulating employment -oriented agriculture policies, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav said that such schemes should be made that could attract youth towards farms.
Addressing senior officials in a meeting held at Mandi Parishad to resolve problems of farmers, Yadav said that Government policies should make farmers feel that these are meant for them. ‘They (farmers) should be the real beneficiaries of the government policies and they should feel the change,’ Yadav said in his address.
He said the farmers would benefit only if they can get good price of their produce. ‘If we can make agriculture employment-oriented half of the problems would be solved. Agro-based industries would be set up at the village level and this would give jobs to the youth at their door steps,’ the state chief minister said.
Drawing a parallel with the neighbouring states like Haryana and Punjab that have made progress in the field of agriculture, Yadav said that Uttar Pradesh should also develop its mandis and make it marketing hub. ‘If we can do so the farmers would get good better price of their remuneration,’ the chief minister said.
‘Uttar Pradesh being a very big state different agriculture policies should be formulated for different agro zones like Bundelkhand and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Such policies should be formulated that could add value to the farm productions,’ the chief minister said.
He also stressed on continuous research in the filed agriculture and if need be foreign assistance should be sought to improve agriculture production in the state.
Agriculture minister Anand Singh also spoke on this occasion.
