Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has announced government jobs for the Vasant Vihar rape victim and her friend who was beaten up in a moving bus in New Delhi on Sunday.  He further said that Samajwadi Party government would extend all possible help to both of them.

‘The government would bear the cost of treatment of both the victims who were subjected to inhuman treatment by six youth,’ he said in a written statement issued on Wednesday.

Both the victims hail from Uttar Pradesh. While the boy is from Gorakhpur and the girl belongs to Ballia – both parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh. The girl is in serious condition and is fighting for her life in Safdarjang Hospital in New Delhi, while her friend has been discharged after treatment.

Yadav said that both of them would be given government jobs. ‘The Uttar Pradesh government has full sympathy with them,’ he declared.

Condemning the incident, Yadav said that such an act was a blot on humanity which was very shameful and painful. ‘Such incidents are very unfortunate for any civilised society and therefore, the need of the hour is to give harsh punishment to rapists and the assailants, so that it could become a lesson for the perpetrators of the similar crime,’ the chief minister said. Governor of Uttar Pradesh BL Joshi had also condemned the incident.
