Ultra-left All India Students Association was on Sunday in the lead for three of the top four posts including that of president in the Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union elections as counting of votes entered the last phase.
Candidate of Democratic Students Federation (DSF) was in the lead for the post of joint secretary as the traditional ballot paper counting went on for over 48 hours.
AISA candidate Akbar Chowdhary was in the lead in a race with DSF’s Ishan Ahmed, SFI’s Rahul N, NSUI’s Pran Veer Singh, ABVP’s Alok Kumar Singh and Concerned Student’s Chandrasen.
‘JNUSU election verdict is a pleasant challenge to the ongoing politically-orchestrated propaganda and nation befooling discourse which grinds that the youth of the country want to see Rahul Gandhi or Narendra Modi as the nation builder, said Ranjit Abhigyan, a leading social activist
working for the rights of informal workers.
Also in the presidential race is Uzbekistan national Akhmetbekov Zhassulan, contesting from Chhatra Janata Dal (U).
According to the trends, Anubhuti Agnes Bara and Sandeep Saurabh, also AISA candidates, were leading for the post of vice president and general secretary.
