Airports Authority of India (AAI) Chairman V P Agrawal has released AAI's innovative new year wall calendar and desk calendar. The occasion was marked by a musical extravaganza by melody king Mikka, which was organised by AAI women's welfare association Kalyanmayee to celebrate its silver jubilee.
The Wall Calendar: 2013 reflects a 'satire' on passengers traveling through Indian airports, which has been aesthetically presented through caricatures drawn by AAI’s in-house talent. The desk calendar is dedicated to birds and nature.
The new year calendars have been made on recycled paper produced at the AAI paper-recycling unit. AAI is the only PSU which has taken forward this initiative of environment conservation.
Kalyanmayee came into existence on 23 December, 1987, due to the vision of Raj Singh, wife of the then International Airports Authority of India (IAAI) Chairman N K Singh. Its aim was to oversee the welfare of women at the then four international airports of India, viz Delhi, Bombay, Calcutta and Madras.
After the creation of Airports Authority of India (AAI) as a result of the merger of the erstwhile International Airports Authority of India (IAAI) and National Airports Authority (NAA)Â in 1998, Saroj Gupta, wife of the then AAI Chairman D V Gupta, rejuvenated the organisation.
AAI’s jurisdiction expanded manifold and today it encompasses 125 airports and the entire Indian airspace. Kalyanmayee's activities have accordingly seen a huge expansion.
The arrival of AAI Chairman V P Agrawal's wife Archna Agrawal as the organisation's first lady has boosted a new dynamism into Kalyanmayee. It is she who has taken the initiative to set up the paper-recycling unit at Delhi, which bagged the Golden Peacock Award 2012. Also, a 24X7 Medical Centre at Pakyong, Sikkim, run by Kalyanmayee has won the Greentech Foundation Award 2011. It has set up career development classes for school dropouts and students of Airport High School, Mumbai, smart classes at Airport High School, Mumbai, and medical camps at Raipur.
Kalyanmayee has also organisd sensitisation workshop across the country to provide a safe working place for women employees and visitors at airports, as well as self-defence workshops for women employees at Delhi. It held the first ever all-women's car rally at Delhi and an in-house fashion show of the creations of Satya Paul.
These CSR initiatives have been applauded and brought for the organisation the IPE CSR Corporate Governance Award.
