Air India, the country’s national airline, has decided to clear payment of all salaries to its employees for the months of September and October before Diwali. It will also make up-to-date payment of PLI for all licensed category employees for the months of May and June 2012.
The decision comes in the wake of directions from Union Minister for Civil Aviation Ajit Singh. The Airline will incur an expenditure of Rs 230 crore for payment of these salary dues and Rs 200 crore for payment of PLI.
The balance PLI for non-licensed category employees for the months of May and June, which involves an expenditure of Rs 60 crore, will be paid by the end of November. The PLI has been abolished with effect from 1 July, 2012.
Ajit Singh has expressed concern about the welfare of the Air India employees and asked the airline to make all efforts in future to make up-to-date payment of salaries to the employees.
The decision to pay all dues has been widely welcomed by the employees and airline industry observers.
