Additional sessions judge Yashwant Kumar allowed the bail application, after the former Haryana minister’s counsel Kapil Sankhla told the court that the charges of sexual exploitation has been dropped against him by the Delhi HC (on 6 December 2013). The defence counsel also told the court that earlier bail applications of his client were rejected on the ground that there were serious charges of sexual exploitation against him. The court directed the accused to furnish a personal bond of Rs five lakh with two sureties of the above amount.
Delhi police had opposed the bail plea saying the former minister could influence witnesses if he is released on bail. However, the prosecution was opposed by Kanda’s counsel who had told the judge that he will abide by the court’s order in case he is granted relief. Kanda’s counsel pleaded that his client has been under judicial custody for the last 18 months and the probe into the case is also over now.
