AIIMS junior doctor kills self over marital woes

A married junior doctor who was pursuing her masters in medicine at AIIMS committed suicide by consuming poison in her hostel room. The girl was allegedly depressed because of discords in her marital life. She also had a divorce case pending in the court.
Kirti Gakhar (27), who hails from Bhiwani in Haryana, and had been residing in AIIMS hostel since July 2012. She was married to Avaneesh who is also a doctor by profession and is pursuing his post-graduation at a medical college in Assam.
On Tuesday morning, her hostel room was found, and a guard who knocked on the door got no response from her. She later informed the senior guard and the Officer in-charge of the police post at AIIMS rushed to the spot. When the door was broken down, Kirti was found in an unconscious state.
'She was immediately rushed to AIIMS casualty where all resuscitative measures were given to her, but was declared dead at around 9.55 am,' an AIIMS spokesperson said. He added that the body has been sent to AIIMS mortuary for post-mortem examination and the reports are awaited.
A suicide note was also recovered from her room saying 'no one was responsible for her death', an investigating official said. An inquiry by a sub-divisional magistrate has been ordered. Her family was also informed about the incident.
Kirti shared her hostel room with two women, who other women who were absent from the room during the incident. She had been staying alone since Monday night when she consumed some poisonous substance that resulted in her death.
