Speaking to Millennium Post, a source close to investigation claimed that a person, whose identity has not been shared with the paper, gave a tip-off to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) alleging Tharoor and one of his associates’ involvement in the murder.
The person who has recorded his statement with the police on Wednesday evening was a former employee of The Leela Palace Hotel in Chanakyapuri where Sunanda was found dead in a suite. At the time of the incident, he was working at the hotel and had allegedly observed the movements of Tharoor and his associate. After the incident, he resigned from the hotel and is presently working in another five star hotel in the city.
Apart from recording the ex-employee’s statement, the SIT has also quizzed Tharoor’s domestic help — Narayan Singh and driver — Bajrangi. The duo were questioned for at least five hours. They had been questioned earlier too. “After interrogating Narayan and Bajrangi, Tharoor may be the next in line. But before grilling Tharoor, we want to collect concrete evidences and confessions,” a police official close to investigation said.
The Delhi Police on Tuesday registered a murder case against ‘unknown persons’ in Sunanda’s mysterious death case on the basis of AIIMS medical report that said her death was unnatural and had happened due to poisoning.
“Other than the revelations made by the hotel staff and Tharoor’s employees, the injury marks on Sunanda’s body are enough to book Tharoor under murder charges. Statements of the passengers who boarded the same flight with the couple also alleged that Sunanda was thrashed by Tharoor,” the source added.
The medical report claims that 15 injury marks including an abrasion on her cheek suggesting “use of blunt force”, a deep teeth bite on the edge of her left palm, a needle prick on her right hand all points at foul play. Her last tweets and conversation with senior journalist Nalini Singh also points that she was depressed over an issue. Despite all these circumstantial evidences, the Delhi Police have taken a year to register an FIR under murder charges in the matter.
