An aide of one of Delhi’s wanted criminals Surender Malik alias Neetu was arrested after he was injured in an encounter in a village in Punjab’s Mansa district, police said on Tuesday.
Delhi Police Special Cell received information that Neetu, on whose arrest Delhi and Haryana police had declared a combined award of Rs seven lakh, and his associate Dayanand alias Deena would be coming to a village in Punjab’s Sardulgarh tesil yesterday.
They put up picket and started checking vehicles passing from there. At around 3.45 pm, Neetu and his aide came to the picket but when asked to stop they fired at the police, which also retaliated but both of them escaped, S N Srivastava, Special CP, Special Cell told reporters. Later, the vehicle was found abandoned at village Boop in Sirsa district, in which Dayaram was found in injured condition while Neetu, who is also suspected to be injured escaped.
Dayanand, a resident of village Jigri Kheda of Karnal district in Haryana, was later admitted to local hospital.
Srivastava said that Neetu was extorting money from businessmen of Delhi and Haryana after he managed to escape from police custody in April last year while being taken to a Delhi Court from Bhondsi jail.
He had created a gang with his associates, Sandeep Chittania, Vikram alias Paras from Panipat, Alok Gupta from Kannoj in Uttar Pradesh, Pradeep alias Bhola from Najafgarh, Bakra and Sandeep of village Titesar in Delhi. ‘The gang was active kidnapping, carjacking, robbery, dacoity and contract killing,’ said Srivastava.
Some of his associates were arrested by Delhi Police but Neetu could not be apprehended despite best efforts. Malik, along with his aides Vikram alias Paras alias Goldy, Alok Gupta and one Kale were involved in the brutal killing of a Delhi Police Head Constable Ram Kishan posted at Kanjhawla police station on the intervening night 25 and 26 November, police alleged.
The constable had tried to stop the car in which they were moving. When he tried to search them, they fired at him but Ram Kishan was not deterred and caught hold of the door of the car as the culprits escaped dragging him for a few meters before shooting him dead.
Their involvement in the killing of Ram Kishan was disclosed on the arrest of one Sandeep. A court had issued non bailable warrant of arrest for all of them and police had declared cash reward of Rs one lakh for their arrest.
