In the run up to the upcoming Delhi assembly elections, the city BJP is trying to woo the Poorvanchali voters in the capital. The party has also decided to piece together various statements of Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit against the community to paint her and Congress party as anti- Poorvanchali in Delhi.
‘Instead of admitting her failure in making Delhi a safe city, the chief minister blames the migrants for the rise in crime in the national capital. The statements made by the chief minister in the wake of rise in incidents of crime against women, challenge the dignity of the migrants,’ said Aman Sinha, BJP spokesperson.
Poorvanchalis are people who hail from Poorvanchal, which is a geographic region of northern India that comprises the eastern end of Uttar Pradesh and may also include parts of Bihar.
He further blamed the government for failing to check price rise in the city which is adversely affecting migrant population.
The party has called a meeting of its Poorvanchal leaders and workers on Wednesday to discuss the issues related to the community and incorporate them in its political agenda. Â
‘The party will come out with an agenda for Poorvanchalis, which would be part of the party’s political agenda for their development,’ he added.
The main reason behind BJP’s concern for the community is, however, being attributed to around 18-20 assembly seats where there is Poorvanchali population are dense and they are in a position to effect the poll result.
These seats are mostly located in east and outer Delhi.
