A 17-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and gang raped in a parking area in central Delhi during the wee hours of Monday. The victim, who hails from Gorakhpur, UP, was allegedly gang raped by four to five unidentified men and dumped in the parking area of Scindia House, Connaught Place on 8 December, where she was discovered by passersby in an unconscious state. The girl has been sent to the government-run Nari Niketan shelter home where she is being treated for her physical and mental trauma suffered during the act.
According to a senior police officer, the victim came from Gorakhpur to the Capital a few days back following a heated argument with her stepmother. She was mentally disturbed and to escape the daily quarrels, the girl boarded a Delhi-bound train at Gorakhpur railway station, reaching the Capital on Sunday late night, said the police.
The police further said that the girl was visiting Delhi for the first time. As she enquired with some local residents outside the New Delhi station, they took her to the parking zone of N Block situated behind Scindia house in Barakhamba area, where they allegedly raped her. When the victim tried to spurn their advances, they allegedly gagged her and raped her after threatening her with dire consequences. Later, the accused fled the spot leaving behind the girl crying for help.
The girl somehow managed to recover herself and started walking towards Connaught Place outer circle. Meanwhile, she was spotted by a patrolling PCR van which rushed her to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where doctors confirmed she was gang raped and assaulted. Immediately, she was treated for her bruises and was discharged from the hospital.
Police said that the girl is suffering from high mental trauma. A case of gang-rape has been registered under relevant provisions of the IPC with Barakhamba police station and a team has been initiated to nab the accused. CCTV footages are also being examined to get some lead.
