Shopkeepers downed shutters in Old Lajpat Rai Market as a mark of protest against Foreign Direct Investment in multi-brand retail on Thursday. Elsewhere too, traders kept their shops closed till 2pm in protest. A rally was held at the Ram Lila Maidan by the Confederation of All India Traders. Among the participants were the top leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) like party chief Rajnath Singh (picture inset), leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley, and Murli Manohar Joshi, and Communist Party of India (CPI) leader AB Bardhan.
‘This FDI is not in favour of the consumer, farmer, trader, manufacturer and the country. That’s why we are opposing it and will continue to oppose it till our last breath,’ said leader of opposition, Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitley while addressing the rally.
