Curfew, which was relaxed for two hours in Rajouri town, was again reimposed for the second consecutive day on Wednesday. Authorities had relaxed the curfew for two hours, after which it was reimposed to foil any untoward incident as the situation continues to be tense but under control, police said.
Curfew was imposed in Rajouri on Tuesday after some VHP activists reportedly burnt terror outfit IS <g data-gr-id="25">flag</g>, leading to protests by minority groups, who said the flag bore religious scripture.
Clashes were reported in parts of Old city area as some men, while defying curfew, pelted stones at policemen.
“Situation has started to return to normal, but the curfew remains in the old Rajouri under the limits of one municipality,” said DIG Rajouri Poonch Range AK Atri.
He added that the situation became normal after leaders of the two community held talks and agreed to resolve the issue amicably. “The leaders of the two communities held a meeting last evening and decided to resolve the issue amicably,” Atri said.
The officer said the police have taken into custody 20 people, who were trying to disrupt the law and order situation in the town by resorting to stone pelting.
Atri said the police and the civil administration was keeping an eye on the situation and are hopeful that the curfew would be lifted soon.
