After resounding victory, TMC to train guns on EC

Alleging that “atrocities” were inflicted on the party by a section of EC officials and central forces in the recently concluded Assembly elections, the Mamata Banerjee- led TMC is now going to register a protest against the poll body.

According to reports, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee asked senior leaders to discuss poll related reports from various constituencies on Saturday in a cabinet meeting. Speaking on the alleged ‘atrocities’, a Trinamool Congress leader told Millennium Post, “A section of the Election Commission and some of its officers especially those who were controlling the central forces, intimidated locals during the polls. It is because of them, that our vote-share came down five-six percent in Kolkata and nearby areas.”  Another leader said that their government was ready to take the matter to the ‘highest authority of the country and will seek justice’.

After a landmark win in the assembly elections, TMC will rule over West Bengal for a second consecutive term. Alleging discrepancies on the part of EC, they pointed to a report which says, that out of 56,000 complaints, 54,000 were false. Blaming the Centre for trying to paint the TMC government in a bad light, the above mentioned TMC leader said, “Just a day before the April 30 elections, the central forces threatened voters and asked them not to come out for voting on the following day.” Citing a particular case he said, “the Congress candidate of Bhawanipur constituency alleged that the TMC candidate from Birbhum district, created disturbance and roughed up their men, which was a false allegation and EC did not enquire into it.”

TMC, last week, had blamed the Centre over transfer of 70 senior IPS officers during the election, and transfer of the Commissioner of Kolkata Police, just after the elections. The Police Super of Midnapore (West), Bharati Ghosh has also filed a case against Election Commission for frivolous reasons behind her eviction during the election. TMC also alleged that EC was working at the behest of opposition parties, and did not listen to them.
