After opinion polls predict victory for BJP, chances of truck with Sena rise

Things will become clear on 19 October after the election results are declared and there are speculations that the 25-year-old alliance between the ruling party at the center and Shiv Sena in Maharashtra which ended on 25 September is inching towards a possible truce.

Since Wednesday both the state party leaders have started working on several modalities on how to go ahead with Sena to make NCP and Congress insignificant in Maharashtra. Speaking to Millennium Post, Maharashtra BJP chief Devendra Fadnavis refused to comment in the matter but refrain himself from speaking anything against the Sena leaders.

The realignment among both the party leaders became evident even before the assembly poll in state after Anant Geete, Shiv Sena’s lone member in the Union Cabinet, maintained that he will not resign as Heavy Industries minister despite parting ways with BJP for Maharashtra polls.

Even Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray has maintained a discreet line while dealing with the BJP at the centre and in the state. His change in stand from asking Geete to resign from the union cabinet and later coming out with a statement that he will take the final call after discussing the issue with prime minister Narendra Modi – clearly shows he has anticipated BJP’s good show in the state poll.

Even after Modi’s return from the US, Uddhav has shown little interest in meeting the PM to discuss the issues related to severing ties. There are also rumours doing the rounds that Raj Thackeray’s MNS could extend an outside support to the Shiv Sena and BJP.

In the context of a possible alliance with the NCP, BJP sources said, ‘We are not going to take NCP’s support in the state. Our fight in Maharashtra is against NCP-Congress’ misrule, which took Maharashtra towards devastation.’

On Thursday evening, there are rumours that the Sena leaders have initiated talk with the state BJP but there was no official confirmation in this regard. Meanwhile, BJP had a several rounds of talk with the smaller Mahayuti allies Mahadeo Jankar’s Rashtriya Samaj Paksha and Raju Shetty’s Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana, Vinayak Mete of Shiv Sangram and RPI’s Ramdas Athawale etc.

As per the exit poll BJP is going to secure anything between 135 to 150 seats in Maharashtra, against 47 seats, which the party has won in 2009.
