After Hooda incident , Chavan to skip event with Modi in Nagpur

A day after Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda was jeered by the crowd at a rally he attended with Narendra Modi, Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan has decided not to attend a programme with the prime minister fearing ruckus by BJP workers.

The Nagpur metro rail project, work for which is to be inaugurated by Modi in Nagpur on Thursday, has blown up into a full-scale political war.

Chavan, who has stirred a controversy by questioning the non-clearance of the Pune project, has reportedly cited three reasons for his decision: ‘no invitation letter received from Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu, no communication received on whether the project has received approval of the Union Cabinet and the possibility of ruckus by BJP workers as it happened to Haryana CM Hooda the other day.’

Earlier in the day, objecting to disruption of Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan’s speech in the presence of Modi at an event in Solapur, state Congress on Wednesday said it would not tolerate such incidents in future.

Chavan, who accompanied the PM to Solapur in western Maharashtra for the inauguration of four-laned National Highway Number 9 on Saturday, had to stop speaking during the function as the crowd began to chant Modi’s name. ‘The suspicion that Modi has dictator’s mentality is now coming true,’ Maharashtra Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant said here on Wednesday.

Angry over the Solapur incident the Congress spokesperson said, ‘Modi supporters created disturbance and the PM did not utter a word. This is dangerous for the democracy.’
‘Similar incident happened with Haryana chief minister too at a PM’s function,’ Sawant stated.
