After Gajendra’s ‘suicide’, Police to take no chances for AAP’s mega event in CP

In a bid to avoid unwanted controversy over the mega event, dialogue form, at Central Park in Connaught Place, organised by the AAP led government on its completion of 100 days, Deputy Commissioner, New Delhi has sent the permission letter to Delhi Police at the last minute, seeking NOC to conduct the event on Monday.

Delhi Police was already on alert once they learned of the event. The tussle game between the Delhi government and Delhi Police is a known fact, which is why till late Sunday evening, the organiser did not seek permission from Delhi Police. However, the organiser had taken permission from the New Delhi <g data-gr-id="25">Muncipal</g> Council (NDMC) to conduct the programme.

On May 22, the Delhi Police received a letter for NDM requesting them to convey the NOC for organising the function and also requested them to make necessary arrangements for deploying security personnel in and around Central Park well before and till the completion of the programme. The letter is in possession of Millennium Post.

“We have told the NDMC that they are not authorised to seek permission for the event on behalf of the organiser. Also, NDMC could give NOC for the land used to conduct the programme. But, to ensure security, the organiser has to take permission from Delhi Police by formally applying to the concerned department,” a senior police official requesting anonymity said.

Replying to the NDMC letter, Delhi Police on May 23, asked the department to give essential information for making suitable security and law and order arrangements. Delhi Police have asked NDMC to give details of the event to be conducted, including details of VVIPs/VIPs and other dignitaries, who have been invited; expected general public gathering, details of the parking plan and the likes.

The NDMC on Sunday <g data-gr-id="39">morning,</g> gave all the details to the police but the organiser failed to seek permission till late evening. “After media channels started playing the story that Delhi government has not taken permission from Delhi Police, the Deputy Commissioner of New Delhi sent a letter seeking NOC and requesting deployment of police force to maintain law and order situation and also for security reasons. As we were already prepared, we have given permission to conduct the event,” the official added.

In April, a 41-year-old farmer, Gajendra Singh, from Dausa, Rajasthan hanged himself in <g data-gr-id="30">presence</g> of more than a thousand people at a <g data-gr-id="29">kisan</g> rally organised by the Aam Aadmi Party in Jantar Mantar.
