After blistering hot day, rain takes Delhi by surprise

Delhi saw sudden rain on Wednesday evening, attributed by weather office to the warm conditions – the maximum temperature five notches above average – during the day. Thursday will be clear after a misty start.

Taking residents by surprise, the weather suddenly turned late evening with a cool breeze while lightning cracked across the sky. Soon, it began to rain.

‘Wednesday’s evening showers were due to hot conditions in the day. Tomorrow (Thursday), there will mist in the morning but a clear sky in the day,’ said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The maximum temperature Wednesday was 34.8 degrees Celsius, which was five notches above what is the average for this time of the sweason, while the minimum temperature settled two notches above average at 17.7 degrees Celsius.

Thursday’s maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 33 and 17 degree Celsius respectively, the IMD official said.
