Afghanistan: At least 40 cops killed in suicide bombing attack

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, according to Afghan media.

The attack came just over a week after the bombing of a bus carrying Nepali security guards working for the Canadian embassy in Kabul that killed 14 people.

Officials were quoted by BBC as saying that as many as 40 police cadets and civilians were killed in the attack carried out by suicide bombers. Paghman district governor Haji Mohammad Musa Khan said many more were injured.

The cadets were returning from a graduation ceremony on Kabul’s outskirts. A security official also told Khaama Press news agency that a suicide bomber targeted the convoy.

He said another explosion took place soon after the first blast in Qala-e-Haidar Khan village.

In April, 64 people were killed when the Taliban targeted a security services facility in Kabul. This was the deadliest terror attack in Afghanistan in five years.
