An Afghan man accused of killing another Afghanistan national in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area on April 1, managed to flee from the police’s net after he was arrested on Saturday in Pune. The police chief has demanded a comprehensive report on the matter.
According to senior police officials, on April 1, 24-year-old Sayed Azmarai was killed after he refused to return the passport of Hafizulla. The deceased who was a resident of Malviya Nagar used to earn money by resolving the issues related to VISA and passports of people. In March, Hafizulla gave his passport to Azmarai for renewal as it was due to expire in April and paid him Rs 40,000. But Azmarai refused to return the passport.
Hafizulla along with his associate eliminated Azmarai. Soon after the incident, the associate was arrested but Hafizulla escaped. Few days ago, through technical surveillance, police learnt that he was hiding in Pune. A team conducted a raid and on Saturday arrested him. He was produced in a local court and was sent to transit remand.
The policemen including two constables, an Assistant Sub-Inspector and a Sub-Inspector, all posted at Malviya Nagar police station were escorting him. At a railway station in Maharashtra, he took permission to relieve himself and jumped off the moving train.
Ishwar Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) had instructed the team to return after re-capturing him. Meanwhile, Alok Verma, Police Commissioner has demanded a report on the matter.
“Once the team returns to Delhi, necessary action will be taken against the policemen who were escorting the accused,” Nupur Prasad, Additional Commissioner of Police (South) said.
