Afghan detained for falsely claiming Indian citizenship

An Afghan citizen was detained at IGI airport for falsely identifying himself as an Indian citizen. The accused had carried voter, Aadhar, PAN and UNCHR cards. Police filed the case on Sunday.

‘The accused Juma Khan was first noticed at the departure wing of Immigration (Terminal-3), IGI airport. He has resided here in Amrit Puri Garhi area for a long time. He was on a flight to Afghanistan by Ariana Afghan Airline Flight FG-312, on an Indian passport on Sunday from Delhi’, said a senior police official.

The accused was noticed by an immigration official. As their suspicions arose, Khan was interrogated thoroughly and he disclosed that he is an Afghan national holding an Indian passport. The passport was issued to him after he forged his Aadhar, PAN and voter ID cards.

‘He arrived in India on 2006 on a valid medical visa issued from Indian Embassy in Kabul. It was valid from August 2006 to November 2006. He had his visa extended from FRRO Delhi as long term visa valid up to June 2012. He further received extension on his visa in July, 2012, up to June 2014,’ the police official said.

He had cheated the Indian Immigration officials by presenting himself as an Indian citizen. He held an Indian voter ID, Aadhar, PAN and UNCHR ID cards from Afghanistan. Thus he had also cheated Election Commission of India and Unique Identification Authority by declaring himself as a citizen of India.

‘We are investigating the matter and more information in this matter will come up soon,’ said the official. Police filed the case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
