Advocate at Tis Hazari court held in fake currency racket

Recently, Delhi police busted two international syndicates supplying fake currency in India, with the arrests of six persons. The kingpin behind the racket has been identified, but is still at large.

A well-placed source in special cell said, ‘On Tuesday, advocate Lokesh Kumar Garg was arrested from the court premises. On the basis of his interrogation, raids were conducted and the team has recovered around fake currency worth around Rs 6 lakh from his possession.’

Garg was a resident of Balabgarh, Haryana and was working as an advocate at Tis Hazari court since 2003. Garg was in touch with Kamal, who was arrested on Saturday by the team of special cell. Kamal, currently, is in police custody. ‘Garg was friends with Kamal, a resident of Delhi. They met in court during some trial. Kamal lured him in his gang to earn easy money and live a lavish life,’ the source said.

Garg used to collect the fake currency from Kamal and distribute it to other dealers. SN Shrivastava, special police commissioner (special cell) said, ‘So far, the recently busted syndicate has pumped over Rs 50 lakh in the Indian market.’

Recently, the special cell team arrested three persons identified as Kamal, Kaiyum and Mohammad Habibuddin Momin. They were caught from Indira Market in Malkaganj with Rs 5 lakh in fake currency.

Sources added, ‘Further investigation is underway to nab the kingpin identified as Male who is possibly hiding in West Bengal or might have fled to Pakistan to avoid arrest after his gang-members were nabbed. The gang was being operated from Kaliachak in Malda of West Bengal.’
