Advani placated, BJP leaders plan Modi cabinet

A day before the BJP’s parliamentary board meeting scheduled on Tuesday, Gujarat Bhawan in the nation capital witnessed a series of parleys on Monday with senior party leaders meeting PM-elect Narendra Modi to discuss cabinet formation and the swearing-in-ceremony which is likely to be held on 24 or 25 May.

Though most of the leaders said it was a ‘courtesy call’ but party insiders claimed that all are concentrating on the possible shape of the cabinet. What came as a sigh of relief for Modi is that party veteran LK Advani is now ready to take any respectable job which will be assigned to him. It seems that the party leadership, under the ‘guidance’ of the RSS, has managed to cope with internal differences. Gujarat Bhawan, party president Rajnath Singh’s residence at Akbar Road and Keshav Kunj at Jhandewalan which houses RSS headquarters were the scenes of action on Monday.

It was learnt that bureaucrats have also started making contacts with the party’s senior leaders to talk about issues that need immediate attention. ‘Also, at the bureaucratic level, lobbying for appointment of secretaries has started,’ BJP sources said.
‘Soon after the swearing-in-ceremony, Modi is likely to take some bold steps regarding the defence ministry as well in poverty eradication. Our party president has briefed him about the issues in the morning,’ said a source.

On the context of whether they will invite UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, her son Rahul Gandhi and other senior opposition party leaders during the swearing-in-ceremony, he said, ‘It was discussed at our party president’s residence and all of them agreed to invite them. He later conveyed the message to Modi ji also.’ He claimed that party officials were not in favour of inviting Priyanka Gandhi and her husband Robert Vadra.

Meanwhile, YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy on Monday promised to give ‘issue based’ support to the next NDA government under the leadership of its Narendra Modi.
Reddy and senior party leaders met Modi in the national capital to convey their wishes and requested for funds required for development related activities in Seemandhra region.
