Advani comes out of cocoon

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L K Advani on Wednesday held his first meeting with party leaders, after  he had withdrawn his resignation from all party posts. Advani held a three hour long meeting, to discuss the electoral reforms that the party will propose to the law ministry.

With the issue of black money being talked about as one major ills in the funding of political parties, the BJP is of the opinion  that the funding of political parties should be done by the state. The other contentious issue, on which the party has not been able to make up its mind, is the tenure of the president of a political party. While a section of BJP leaders are of the view that the tenure should be restricted to not more than two terms of 10 years, some other leaders say that in case of regional parties this won’t be possible.

The BJP is also of the view that general and assembly elections should be done simultaneously, as this will lead to better management of resources. The party is also of the view that other political parties should emulate BJP and should encourage inner democracy within their parties.

BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has been made the convenor of the committee, which has been entrusted with this task. The party plans to submit its report by next month.
