The Medical Council of India, which keeps a vigil on the standards in country’s medical colleges has put its foot down on the MBBS admission process at Hindu Rao Medical College for the academic session 2015-16 over non-fulfilment of rules and regulations.
The 50-seat North Delhi Municipal Corporation-run college has come under MCI scanner which has written to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare asking them not to renew the permission for admission to the third batch of MBBS course.
When Millennium Post reached out to the college authorities, an official said: “We are confident that we’ll get the renewal of permission for the MBBS course.”
“The MCI inspects every year and points out certain problems with regard to the infrastructure. We have issues with regard to manpower, infrastructure and security issues. We are in the process of recruitment and we are confident that we’ll catch up with the concerned issues,” the official said on condition of anonymity.
In the letter written by MCI to the secretary of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, it said that during the assessment of physical and other teaching facilities available, the executive committee of the council noted that there is deficiency of faculty by 34.14 per cent. Sufficient lecture theatres are not available.
It further said that available hostel accommodation is just 70 against the requirement of 152 as per regulations. As for the residents’ hostels, only 35 seats are available for accommodation against the requirement of 51. Also, in the anatomy department, there are only two cadavers for 50 students which is inadequate. Forensic medicine department is under renovation. Pathology department has only 30 mounted specimens.
The assessment copy was also forwarded to the Dean, North Delhi Municipal Corporation Medical College, Hindu Rao Hospital to submit detailed rectification of deficiencies before February 20, 2015, along with the demand draft of Rs 3 lakh in favour of the MCI. The Hindu Rao Medical College is affiliated to the Indraprastha (IP) University after North Delhi Municipal Corporation got recognition from MCI to start a medical college in 2013.
