Accused arrested for killing friend over non payment of Rs 150

Delhi police have arrested the accused who killed his 30-year-old roommate for ‘taunting’ him over non-payment of Rs 150 that the accused took as loan.

The incident was reported to police on 29 July saying that a body was lying in a room locked from outside in Indraj Colony in Bawana area of outer Delhi. When a police team reached the spot, they found him lying in a pool of blood and a plastic rope was found tied around his neck.

Police was clueless about the identity of the deceased as he had recently moved into the rented accommodation. When the landlord was questioned he told police that he is unaware of the identity of the tenant as he had neither got the tenant’s identity verified, nor had he taken down his details, including his name.

‘This resulted in a lot of time getting spent on first identifying the deceased. Based on local inquiry, it was found out that the deceased had been staying at some nearby room before he shifted into this room,’ the official said.

The deceased has been identified as Sant Ram, a resident of Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh. The factory where the deceased had been working recently was found out and from inquiry it was learnt that the deceased had recently started sharing the room with someone as one of his co-workers had overheard him talk to his room-mate that he would not be getting back for dinner.

His room-mate was later identified as Phool Prasad who on sustained interrogation revealed that he had taken a loan of Rs 150 from Ram. But he was unable to return it on time due to financial crisis.

Ram reportedly used to taunt him for the non-payment of Rs 150. On the day of the incident, the duo had a heated argument that turned violent and Prasad killed him.
