ABVP submits demands for new education policy

Amid allegations of encroaching upon the autonomy of educational institutions in the country, RSS affiliated students’ body ABVP had demanded the government to create an independent body to ensure that a paralysed situation during the regime change at Centre does not arise. The delegation led by ABVP leaders and students submitted a charter of 20 demands to the Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani on Friday in the wake of the finalisation of New Education Policy.

“ABVP demanded a new mechanism to set up an independent body which should work independently of the government so that there is no paralysis-like situation during the regime change,” said the spokesperson of ABVP. The students of JNU and Delhi University affiliated to ABVP participated in the delegation led by Nagesh Thakur, National President of ABVP. The right wing students’ body also demanded the government to link NAAC ranking with “Know Your College” program of MHRD.

“This will help the students to choose better colleges and universities,” the spokesperson added. The delegation also demanded creation of a separate fund – State University Rejuvenation Fund — to put the state universities at par with the central universities.
