ABVP holds protest against changing of Rajdhani college to Rajiv Gandhi

Hundreds of Akhil Bhartiya Vidhya Parishad (ABVP) members gathered on Thursday to protest the rechristening of Rajdhani College to Rajiv Gandhi College Delhi.
Organising secretary Yogendra Pyashi declared the move as dictatorial on the part of Congress. According to him, there was no need that every social or educational reform be named after either Indira Gandhi or Rajiv Gandhi.
Deepak Bansal, ex-joint secretary of Delhi University Student Union appealed to the gathered students to oppose the changing of names of educational institute at the whims and fancies of politicians.
'Such attempts are an obvious attempt to create a brand recall. Premier institutes like Jawaharlal Nehru University, Indira Gandhi National Open University are all named after someone from the Gandhi family,' points out Bansal.
He claims that educational institutes have been the largest victim of politicisation.
According to him, personalities like Swami Vivekanada and Aryabhatta have made far greater contribution to the society and deserve such credit.
