Abandoned by parents, sisters found maggot-infested and starving

After their father, Bunty, an alcoholic, locked his eight-year-old daughter Pinki (name changed) and three-year-old Pooja (name changed), police found them last week in a dilapidated cot surrounded by maggots.

On August 15, two months after Rosy, the two kids’ mother left home along with her two-year-old son, their alcoholic father in a fit of rage, locked up the girls at their residence.

A foul smell was coming out of the room rented out to Bunty and his family on August 19 which was identified by Sanjay, the landlord. He immediately informed the police. When a team reached the spot, they were in for a huge shock.

Two minor girls surrounded by maggots were found lying in a cot. Coupled with this, there was no food, no ventilation which further aggravated the situation for the minor inhabitants who were surrounded by their own excreta. A team of police rushed the sisters to Baba Saheb Ambedkar hospital. Upon admission, doctors too were left aghast when they found that the eight-year-old’s brain was attacked by maggots.

Talking to Millennium Post, a counsellor present at the hospital with the two girls shared: “There were deep wounds on Pinki’s head. Although the latter is in a serious condition, it is the three-year-old girl who shared that their father had locked them up in the dingy room without food and water.”

While talking to the counsellor, the three-year-old girl was asked if she would like to live with her parents after they are found by the police. To this, the child replied: “I don’t want to live with them at all.”

Meanwhile, since the day Delhi Police rescued the two sisters, two constables from the Samaipur Badli police station have been posted to look after them.

On Friday, Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal visited the girls at the hospital. She tweeted: “Met 2 little girls abandoned by parents. Hv deep wounds infested with maggot, were stinking. Such a shame. Parents shud b punished for this (sic).”
