Aarushi’s parents file petition in SC, delay recording of statements

Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, facing trial in the murder case of their daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj in a Ghaziabad court, on Tuesday approached the Supreme Court for recording of statements of 14 witnesses, including the then CBI joint director Arun Kumar. They have challenged the CBI court order which had rejected their plea on the issue. SC is likely to hear the plea on Friday.

The couples also filed an application in a court here seeking adjournment of the process of recording of their statements.

The two sought the adjournment from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special judge S Lal on the plea that they had filed a special leave petition in Supreme Court over the matter.

The trial court had on Monday ordered the recording of the statements of the Talwar couple on Tuesday.  But the Special CBI Court adjourned till Wednesday the recording of statements of the couple, after they approached the Supreme Court on Tuesday. The CBI has told the court that the dentist couple killed their teenage daughter Aarushi and Hemraj and that no outsider was present at the time. Aarushi was found dead with her throat slit in her bedroom on 16 May, 2008.

Domestic help Hemraj was the initial suspect but later his body was  found at the terrace of the Talwar's residence in Jalvayu Vihar in Noida.

The statement of the CBI investigating officer AGL Kaul, the last prosecution witness, has already been recorded. In his deposition before the additional judge, Kaul, who headed the CBI probe, had told the court that their investigations revealed no evidence of any third person's entry in the house.

Earlier CBI had countered the plea of the dentist couple in the trial court in which they had sought the deposition of former CBI joint director Arun Kumar as witness.
