AAP’s graft helpline gets 20k calls, 29 make the ‘cut’

Calls came pouring but few made the cut. In the past 48 hours of the launch of the Delhi government’s anti-corruption helpline, the attendants answered over 20,000 calls. Of these, 29 complaints have been marked to the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) for investigation.

“Most of the people called up to check the authenticity of the helpline number 1031. The number of prank calls was very high but it will reduce gradually,” said a senior Delhi government officer. As per the government data, attendants answered a total of 20,656 calls till 5pm on Tuesday.

As per the procedure, the attendants screen the calls on the basis of clarity of recordings, feasibility to take action and eagerness of the complainant to facilitate a sting operation. The selected calls are marked to facilitators, who finally select cases fit for investigation by the ACB and mark it to the Branch.

“Of the 80 complaints marked to facilitators, 25 were found not to be fit to referred to the ACB, while 16 are pending for scrutiny and 10 are being followed-up. Of these, 29 have been referred to the ACB for probe and further action,” said the officer.

Explaining the procedure, the officer that the complainant needs to be informed about the requirement of sting operations.
