AAP’s Ggn wing protests against pvt schools charging exorbitant fees

The Aam Aadmi Party wing of Gurgaon has protested against private schools on the grounds that they are charging exorbitant fees and for violating the Haryana School Education Rules 2003. This protest comes just before the start of the admission season in Gurgaon.

As claimed by the protestors, the private schools in Gurgaon have been violating the Haryana School Education Rules 2003 across parameters. One of the main charges is that the schools have been charging admission fee in every academic year. “Charged once, the fee cannot be increased again and again. Similarly, once the construction work in the school is over, no building fee can be charged by the school,” said RS Rathi, spokesperson, AAP Gurgaon.

Sources have also said that private schools in the city have been charging for uniform and books and due to their tie-ups with dealers and to ensure profit margins, they are forcing parents to buy from them. These dealers usually charge four times the market value of books and uniforms, said Rathi. The protestors also demanded that schools should be told to set only those books which were approved by the state or central boards of education.

“25 per cent seats had to be earmarked in each school for students of Economically Weaker Sections but it has not been done. Also, those who do not have BPL cards are given admission in these schools to fill up the seats meant for quota holders. We demand transparency in this allotment of seats,” Rathi added.
