“What is more disturbing for the democracy is that the radical thoughts are being spread by using centres of education like Delhi University. Aam Aadmi Party sees the trend disturbing as BJP leadership is now targeting young minds to communalise the society,” said AAP leader Ashutosh.
“The seminar addressed by BJP leader Subramaniam Swamy is condemnable and calls for democratic forces to unite against the communal forces,” he added demanding prosecution of the people responsible for the meeting.
He alleged that the meeting at the Delhi University comes in close heels to the statement by Union Cultural Minister Mahesh Sharma who claims that the Central government led by Narendra Modi is committed to the construction of the temple in Ayodhya.
The two-day conference by Arundhati Vasishtha of Anusandhan Peeth on the issue of Ram Janmabhoomi began amidst protests by various student groups which accused the Central government and the Delhi University management of conniving together to communalise the environment at the campus.
“At a time when even the Allahbad high court has given the judgement in our favour why can’t an academic discussion and a public discussion be held on temple construction in Ram Janmabhoomi,” said Sanjay Kumar, the organiser of the event. “On day two the discussion on archaeological aspects and the law matters would be held,” said Kumar. In the seminar Subramanium Swami delivered his speech as a key note speaker and claimed that work on the temple construction would start by December. Satinder Awana, President Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) said, “We are not against any religion.”
The leftist student organisations along with Congress’ student wing NSUI and AAP student wing CYSS protested against the seminar. The police detained some students, however, they were let off afterwards. Anmol Panwar of Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS) said, “ The Delhi University is otherwise ridden with a lot of administrative problems, rather than tackling such issues, the
management is allowing the communal forces to create a divisive environment.”
