The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday slammed the BJP for taking a U-turn over the issue of statehood for Delhi. The party said BJP has cheated Delhiites and exposed itself in the process after its denial for granting statehood to Delhi. The party allayed that even Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself had promised “full state” status to Delhi if BJP was voted to power in full majority at the <g data-gr-id="24">Centre</g> but the party has <g data-gr-id="25">back-tracked</g> soon after it came to power.
“Centre’s silence on the issue of full statehood to Delhi is the biggest U-turn of the “‘Modi sarkar”’ (Modi government). The party further alleged that some media reports quoting home ministry officials, denying statehood to Delhi, clearly exposes the BJP and nails its lie on the issue.
“Will Dr Harsh Vardhan, VK Malhotra, Vijay Goel, Jagdish Mukhi and Vijender Gupta break their silence on this issue,” asked Dilip Pandey, a senior AAP leader.
“Will BJP apologise to the people of Delhi for having lied to them on the issue of statehood for Delhi during the last 22 years.
The party has been promising complete statehood for Delhi for the past 22 years, but when it came to power with a clear majority, it made a U-turn.
“Today, they feel cheated, the party added. “Prime Minister Modi and BJP’s seven MPs, who were elected on the promise of full statehood to Delhi, are silent. BJP and its leadership will have to come out and make their stand clear on the issue,” said Pandey.
