AAP seeks probe against Kamal Nath in Sikh riots

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday demanded a probe against senior Congress leader Kamal Nath, who quit as the party in-charge of Punjab a day ago, over his alleged involvement in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

AAP leader HS Phoolka said Nath resigned fearing action in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case. Nath was inducted by the Nanavati Commission on allegations of being involved in the riots.

“Kamal Nath had himself admitted that he was present at the Gurudwara Rakab Ganj in Delhi, where two Sikhs were killed,”  he said. The lawyer-turned-politician added that Nath’s role was never investigated.

Phoolka also lashed out at the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee Chief, Captain Amarinder Singh, saying that in order to come back to power in the poll-bound state, he was distributing clean chit to ‘tainted’ party leaders, who were allegedly involved in the massacre of Sikhs.

Phoolka also hit out at Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, saying: “Why hasn’t Kamal Nath’s case been opened? It should be opened immediately because the attack at the Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib is not a minor issue. All evidence are against Kamal Nath,”  he added.

Senior AAP leader Dilip Pandey said the Congress was forced to withdraw Nath from Punjab because of our continued pressure over his involvement in the riots. He added that the Delhi Police had turned a blind eye to the brutal 1984 massacre, which claimed the lives of more than 3,000 Sikhs.

AAP MLA Jarnail Singh wanted to know why Congress leader Sajjan Kumar was still with the party-fold, when Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh has himself said that Singh was one of the prime accused in the riots.
