AAP refuses to enter the process of govt formation

The party said they would prefer to sit at opposition despite making significant gains in the Delhi assembly elections. The party further said that this is also a bitter truth that people have not given them full mandate to form the government. The party further said that they will not hesitate to go for re-elections in the state.

‘We are ready to sit in the opposition or contest for the re-elections, as we do not have the absolute majority to form the government,’ said AAP leader Yogendra Yadav. He further said that there was no question of alliance with the BJP or the Congress, as it was already made clear by Arvind Kejriwal that AAP would neither support nor approach any party for alliance.

‘This is our first election and we have emerged as the second largest party after the BJP, which has won 31 seats. The largest parties lack the absolute majority (36 seats) needed to form the government. We will not get involved in political malfunctions and also we are not anxious to form the government’, said Yadav.

Earlier, Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said the party will form the government only if it achieves absolute majority by following the natural process and not by forming alliance with any of the parties, whose records are full of corruption allegations.

Senior leaders in the party further said that there was some mismanagement during polling, which cost them some seats.

As one senior leader said, ‘We had no experience to bring the voters out as our competitors did. Till morning on Election Day, our supports were casting their votes in large numbers, while the BJP maintained the same pace of bringing out their supporters to vote. But after 3 pm the situation changed and Congress received maximum votes, while we were at the bottom. Here it was strategic failure, that costs us some seats’.
