The Delhi government has decided to give a two-month extension to Gender Resource Centre’s after a delegation of affected employees met Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
The government also directed to clear all dues of persons working at Gender Resource Centres (GRCs) that falls under the Mission Convergence programme, launched by Sheila Dikshit in 2008.
A senior government official, confirmed: “Government has given a period of two-month extension to these centre’s which can now operate till July 31 in the national Capital. All dues of their employees will soon be cleared by the city government”.
The Mission Convergence (Samajik Suvidha Sangam) of the Delhi government issued an order directing the discontinuation of GRCs and district resource centre projects from May 31, however, the move was not supported by many social activists.
The GRCs had been used by the government in the past to facilitate the common man’s access to social initiatives such as Annashree cards, Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana, the Aadhaar card, and thereafter for the Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana. The GRCs also provided vocational training in conducting courses like beauty, culture, legal awareness, tailoring, health and other fields.
