‘We are committed to end VIP culture in Indian politics. As a result, we are not sending invitation to any such persons. Every aam admi (common man) is invited in the function,’ said spokesperson of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The oath taking ceremony for the new chief minister will be held in Ram Lila Ground probably on 26 December but Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung is still awaiting the letter of the president Pranab Mukherjee, to announce the final date.
The chief secretary of Delhi DM Sapolia summoned North DMC commissioner P K Gupta on Tuesday evening and asked him to prepare Ram Lila Ground for the function.
‘We have started leveling and cleaning the ground. The sanitation and works department have been pressed in to service,’ said YS Mann, director, Press and Information of North DMC. The ground comes under the administrative jurisdiction of North DMC, which lends it for any function on Rs 5,000 per day.
However, AAP has announced not to invite VIPs in the oath taking ceremony of Kejriwal as chief minister, the source said that the LG’s office will send invitations to VIPs in the city.
‘We will decide on preparations only after president confirms the date for oath taking ceremony,’ said information officer at LG secretariat. According to sources with LG secretariat, there is a fixed protocol to invite VIPs and VVIPs in such functions.
The chief minister designate and his party generally invite his party’s senior leaders and relatives in the oath taking ceremony.
The decision of not inviting anybody by AAP is also being seen as face saver as corruption crusader Anna Hazare has already refused to come, while Kejriwal’s old colleagues Kiran Bedi, VK Singh, and Justice Santosh Hegde have parted ways.
