AAP names safai karamchari as ‘tenth’ ambassodor for Clean India campaign

The AAP party has announced sanitation worker as the ‘tenth’ ambassador for PM Narendra Modi’s recently-launched Clean India campaign. The move comes days after Modi named nine celebrities as brand ambassadors for the Clean India campaign on 2 October.

‘It is a positive step that celebrities have come forward to contribute towards cleanliness. However it is surprising that the Prime Minister has forgotten to mention the most important person in the list, who single-handedly assumes the responsibility of cleaning’, said Kejriwal. ‘This faceless, nameless safai karamchari should infact have been the first brand ambassador of this campaign,’ Kejriwal added.

He further said ‘We are naming safai karamchari as the brand ambassador since he inspires us the most, more than the nine brand ambassadors, to pick up the broom and clean our houses, our neighbourhoods and our country.’ He also said that without mentioning the contribution of safai karmacharis and without addressing their issues, the goal of a Clean India can never be achieved.

‘What surprises us more is that fact, that the Prime Minister is the leader of Bhartiya Janta Party, which claims that its goal is to bring the development to the doorstep of the last man in the row (Antyodaya). But they have forgotten about the contribution of safai karmacharis’, he said.
