In a series of tweets, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday slammed the Delhi Police for not paying attention to crimes against women. AAP also reiterated that instead of looking into this serious issue, the police are busy hunting down AAP MLAs. This came right after Vikaspuri AAP MLA Mahendra Yadav was arrested on charges of rioting.
Soon after the Yadav’s arrest, AAP leaders used social media to slam Delhi Police. “It is now a crime in Delhi to protest against the rape of a minor when the police refuse to register an FIR against the accused,” tweeted a Delhi government spokesperson. Reacting to Yadav’s arrest, AAP’s Delhi convener Dilip Pandey tweeted: “Delhi Police busy again arresting AAP MLA instead of ensuring Delhi women safety despite multiple warnings from courts.”
“MLA Mahendra Yadav arrested, for what? He was there where public was protesting against rape of a girl child? Is it wrong to ask for justice?” Pandey tweeted.
Slamming the police, Pandey said the incident reflected the priorities of the Delhi Police, which was “indulging” in arresting AAP leaders. He further targeted the Delhi Police and the Central government over shortage of funds to install CCTV cameras in Delhi.
“Finance Minister has no fund for security camera, Delhi still a rape capital, Court slammed multiple times ,but who cares. Delhi Police busy hunting AAP MLA,” he tweeted.
Delhi Police on Friday arrested AAP’s Vikaspuri MLA, Mahendra Yadav on charges of leading a riot and assaulting a government official during a protest on the Nangloi Road seeking justice for molestation of a three-year-old girl in West Delhi. The tussle between AAP and Delhi Police is not new. In his first term as CM, Kejriwal staged a dharna demanding action against police officers in three different cases, including the Khirki extension case.
The two had also crossed swords after the death of Gajender Singh Chouhan.
