AAP member’s house burgled; fundraising amount goes missing

Cash to the tune of Rs 5.5 lakh, jewellery and cheques worth Rs 12 lakh issued in the name of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were allegedly burgled from the residence of AAP legislator from Shalimar Bagh, Vandana Kumari, on Tuesday night.

Police teams were sent to the spot immediately after receiving a PCR call around 11.20 pm and a case was registered under relevant sections of IPC, said a police official.

As narrated by Vandana Kumari, the former legislator had gone to her office in Shalimar Bagh for a meeting and when she returned, the lock of the main door was broken. “When I rushed inside, the house was in a disorganised state. I rushed to the safe where I had kept the cash and cheques and both were missing,” said Kumari.

She further added: “The cheques were crossed cheques issued to the party so no bearer can encash
them. However, the approximate cash amount of Rs 5.5 lakh was raised recently through the party’s fund raising programme from the concerned constituency.” There were no CCTV cameras installed in or around her residence due to which the police could not identify the alleged burglars till the time this report was filed. Vandana Kumari, however, has not raised allegations regarding the probability of the burglars being aware of the presence of the fund-raising amount at her residence.
