Targeting the VIP culture, Kejriwal told the media outside the AAP office in Ghaziabad: ‘I will travel by Metro for the oath taking ceremony.’
Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia said Kejriwal has asked his proposed ministers also to use public transport to reach Ramlila Maidan. ‘We are using public transport to bring an end to the VIP culture,’ said Sisodia. He said the aim was to show the common man that their chief minister and MLAs were no different from them.
‘Along with Kejriwal, I will catch a train from Kausambi Metro Station at 11 am while the other AAP MLAs would be taking the Metro from their respective constituencies,’ said Sisodia. Another senior leader and one of the ministers of Kejriwal’s cabinet, Somnath Bharti, said AAP MLAs and ministers have not made any special preparation for the oath ceremony, ‘We have not stitched special dresses for the event. We are going to be our usual selves,’ said Bharti. ‘None of our family members will have special seats, not even the MLAs,’ he added.
The would-be ministers include former journalists Manish Sisodia (41) and Rakhi Birla (26), lawyers Saurabh Bharadwaj (34) and Somnath Bharti (39), architect Satyendra Jain (49) and businessman Girish Soni (49).
‘Many people are asking me for passes for the oath ceremony. No passes are needed. All are welcome. My family will also sit in public,’ Kejriwal tweeted.
In a tweet, Kejriwal, who will head a minority government propped up by the Congress, said everyone was welcome to the Ramlila Maidan. The AAP, which stunned everyone by bagging 28 of the 70 seats in the Delhi election, just three seats behind the BJP, is expecting thousands of people to throng the Ramlila Maidan on Saturday. Delhi police sources said some 25,000 chairs had been provided at the ground, which can also reportedly accommodate around 50,000 more people if they stand.
