Tanwar, who is an MLA from Chhatarpur, was campaigning for the party’s candidate for the MCD by-polls in his Fortuner car when the incident took place.
According to the police, three to four unidentified men came and pulled out Tanwar’s friend Ajeet, a property dealer, from the car and thrashed him.
When Tanwar intervened, the assailants allegedly damaged the car with iron rods and sticks. The miscreants managed to escape, seeing residents coming to Tanwar’s rescue.
“During by elec campaign, Car of Chhatarpur MLA KartarSingh Tanwar attacked while he was inside. One person injured badly. Old threat-trics? Looks like someone not ready to accept d defeat easily, resorting to violence. Attackers are yet to b identified in cctv,” AAP leader Dilip K Pandey tweeted.
Meanwhile, Tanwar has expressed hope that the police would take action against the miscreants.
“In the evening, Ajeet filed a complaint at the Fatehpur Beri police station. We are scanning the CCTV footage to identify the culprits. Property dispute cannot be ruled out. Further investigation is underway,” said a senior police official.
It must be noted that AAP has fielded candidates from all 13 wards that are going to polls. The elections are scheduled to be conducted next month.
