AAP launches its SC & ST wing, Kejriwal to leave for NY on Sat

Speaking at the launch of the wing, party convenor Arvind Kejriwal said the development of nation and Delhi was not possible without the progress of all the communities, including the Schedule Tribe and Schedule Caste Community. The party is targetting the 12 reserved seats of Delhi assembly and 40 seats where the SC/ST voters have considerable influence.

Meanwhile, several prominent Dalit personalities joined the AAP on Wednesday during the launch of
the wing. Among those who joined the party include Dr Kaushal Panwar, assistant professor of Sanskrit in Delhi University. Her life story was featured in Aamir Khan’s popular TV serial Satyamev Jayate in the episode on untouchability and caste discrimination. A close aide of former Prime Minister Late VP Singh, Chaudhary Itwari Lal, who was associated with his Jan Chetna Manch also joined the party. BSP Delhi state unit treasurer Ho Ram and MCD sweepers’ union leader Ashok Kumar Anjana, too joined the party.

Addressing the programme, Kejriwal said justice, respect and equal rights for the weaker sections of society are crucial for development of all. He said Keep India Clean (Swachh Bharat Abhiyan) campaign can only succeed in case it was taken beyond symbolism and that is possible only by giving respect and importance to the sweepers. Incidentally, the party launched its election symbol — broom — at Valmiki Sadan, a community which is mostly involved in cleaning purpose, which reflected its support for AAP.

Kejriwal on Saturday evening will proceed to New York, where his IIT batchmates and AAP supporters have planned interactions with the Indian community on Sunday. He is also expected to address a gathering of students during his two-day stay in New York. No official fund raising event has been organised by the party during his trip of the US also. However, the NRIs  are welcome to contribute in accordance with party’s norms displayed on the website.

However, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor alleged it’s nothing but a fund raising tour.

“AAP has once again degraded the democratic values of Indian polity. Never in the history of India has any political party gone abroad for election fund collection,” alleged Kapoor.
